Karen Anne Trazino, formerly of Goshen and Greenwood Lake, passed away Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill. She was 63 - far too young to leave us.
Karen was born Nov 30, 1948, in New York City to William and Ruth Lafferty.
She married John Joseph Trazino just after high school. They were blessed with two children, Marie and John, of whom she was very proud and loved deeply.
In life, Karen had a brilliant mind. She was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking, loved her animals and loved to create beauty. Ideas flowed easily from her which she shared through enthusiastic conversation, her writing, crochet work and scrapbooking.
She also had impeccable taste in fashion and home design and could create any warm, welcoming space.
Karen lived a life dedicated to public service, a tradition that survives in her children. She proudly served as a member of the Greenwood Lake Ambulance Corps where she was named Corpsman of the Year in 1979.
In 1987, she was proud to become a registered nurse and had a career spanning 20 years working at Horton Medical Center as an oncology nurse on Tower 5 and the Tucker Center. Karen always cared and fought for her patients and their families with love, tenacity and a deep sense of spirituality - virtues she carried until the end of this life and into the next.
She was fearless and steadfast in the things she knew to be right and the lives she affected were many.
She is mourned by her daughter Marie Elizabeth Kirms, her husband Robert and their children Logan, Derek and Lauren of Westtown; her son John William Trazino and his wife Susan Toddy of Greenwood Lake and their children Alexander, Sebastian, Saoirse and Zachary; her sister Colleen Zmuda and her husband Tom of Albany and their children Tommy, Jesse and Maggie; and her beloved dog Rubi.
She is also survived by a large extended family of relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
Visitation hours will be held Friday, Aug. 24, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Strong-Basile Funeral Home, 4 Oak St., Greenwood Lake.
Services will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church on Windemere Avenue in Greenwood Lake. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Lake Cemetery on Old Dutch Hollow Road.
