Josephine Janiak
Josephine Janiak of Warwick entered into rest on Monday, July 22, in Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, N.Y. She was 83.
The daughter of the late Joseph P. Straub Sr. and Zofia Michalek Straub, she was born on Sept. 9, 1929 in Chester, N.Y.
Josephine was the widow of Frank Janiak; she began her life with him as husband and wife on Aug. 3, 1952. Josephine had a full life as a dairy farmer with her beloved husband. They raised a family, retired together and spent time traveling with family and friends. Her family was proud of her in 1988 when she received her G.E.D. In 1997 Josephine had her first first with cancer. She fought back and won, only to fight again two more times. She sadly said good-bye to Frank in 1999 and missed him greatly. Josephine, through quiet dignity, showed her family how to not to give up, to trust in God and love always. Her greatest gift was allowing her loved ones to prepare for her next journey without them.
Josephine was survived by her children; a son, Gary Janiak and companion, Fran Ross, of Warwick; Daughters, Karen Pennings and fiancée, Tom Beck, of Florida, and Marie Janiak-Hranitz and spouse, Paul Hranitz, of Warwick. Josephine was also survived by several grandchildren who loved her unconditionally; Dr. Danielle Janiak, Lauren Pennings, Matthew Janiak, Rachel Pennings, Jason Hranitz, Mark Pennings, Maxwell Hranitz, Matthew Hranitz and Nick Hranitz, Amanda Beck and Jennifer Beck. Additionally, she was survived by former daughter-in-law Melissa Gerczak and former son-in-law Joe Pennings.
Josephine was survived by several brothers, John Straub and Henry Straub, of Chester, Joseph Straub Jr., of California, and Robert Straub, of Tennessee; and a sister, Ann Shuback, of Chester. She had many nephews and nieces — some she knew more than others. Some very close friends who she could not do without and loved them dearly. She was predeceased by her sisters: Helen Nozkowski, Sister Mary Albert, O.P, and Kathryn Straub.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Florida, Seward Senior Citizens Club and Arbor Day Foundation. She loved her flowers, trees and gardens.
