Josephine Janiak
Josephine Janiak of Warwick died on Monday, July 22, 2013, in Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern. She was 83.
Daughter of the late Joseph P. Straub Sr. and Zofia Michalek Straub, she was born on Sept. 9, 1929, in Chester.
She had a full life as a dairy farmer with her late husband, Frank Janiak, whom she married on Aug. 3, 1952. Her family was proud of her in 1988 when she received her G.E.D. In 1997 she fought cancer and won only to fight again two more times.
Survivors include her son, Gary Janiak of Warwick; daughters, Karen Pennings Tom Beck of Florida, N.Y., and Marie Janiak-Hranitz and husband, Paul Hranitz, of Warwick; grandchildren, Dr. Danielle Janiak, Lauren Pennings, Matthew Janiak, Rachel Pennings, Jason Hranitz, Mark Pennings, Maxwell Hranitz, Matthew Hranitz and Nick Hranitz, Amanda Beck and Jennifer Beck; former daughter-in-law Melissa Gerczak; and former son-in-law Joe Pennings; brothers, John Straub and Henry Straub of Chester, Joseph Straub Jr. of California, and Robert Straub of Tennessee; sister, Ann Shuback of Chester; and many nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her sisters Helen Nozkowski, Sister Mary Albert, O.P., and Kathryn Straub.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Florida, N.Y., Seward Senior Citizens Club, and Arbor Day Foundation.
Visitation was scheduled for Wednesday, July 24, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 22 Glenmere Ave., Florida, N.Y. A funeral mass was scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, at St. Joseph Church, Florida, N.Y. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
