John Zangrillo
John Zangrillo of Chester, a farmer and partner and owner of Scattered Acres Farm, LLC, for more than 70 years, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill. He was 89 years of age and a lifelong resident of the area.
The son of Luigi and Guiseppina Zangrillo, he was born June 14, 1922, in Chester.
He was a member of St. Columba R.C. Church, He was a life member with more than 50 years of service to the Walton Engine and Hose Company 1, Chester Fire Department, a trustee of Walton Engine and Hose and a member of the Chester Town Board for 20 years.
He was a founding member and former Vice President of Orange County Vegetable Growers Association, and a member of the Orange County Farm Bureau, where he was a former director. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Columba Holy Name Society and a member for more than 50 years of the Middletown Elks Lodge 1097.
Johnny was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He took pride in his farm which was an important part of his life.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years Marian Bierstine Zangrillo at home; his son Thomas J. and his wife Colleen Zangrillo of Warwick; and his daughter Christine Zangrillo of Royersford, Pa. His grandchildren Julia, Lauren, Rachel and John Zangrillo also survive him along with several nieces and nephews, including Joni and Paul Thomas, JoAnne Zangrillo, Sol Levin and Tina Zangrillo and several great nieces and nephews also survive.
John was pre-deceased by his brother Angelo L. Zangrillo and his wife Serena, his sister Phyllis Scandurra and her husband Joseph and his niece Marie Scandurra.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 16, between 4 and 8 p.m., and on Saturday, March 17, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, 139 Stage Road, Monroe.
Firematic services will be held on Friday evening at 7 at the funeral home conducted by the Chester Fire Department
A funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, March 17, at St. Columba R.C. Church 29 High St., Chester, at 11: a.m.
Burial will follow at St. Columba R.C. Church Cemetery.
