John McCaffrey of Warwick passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, at Schervier Pavilion. He was 70 years old.
Born on Nov. 23, 1946, in Brooklyn, he was the son of Michael and Mary (Murphy) McCaffrey.
He was married to Nancy (Mariano) McCaffrey.
John served with the Air Force from 1965-1971. He was a systems engineer with RCA in New York City. He then founded and was the Owner/CEO of Highland Data Systems, a consulting firm. He designed software systems, some of which are on display at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.
An avid reader, he enjoyed reading about astronomy and history, especially World War II. He researched all the facts about the Titanic and had started a book about it.
He was also an avid golfer.
John’s father died when he was 13 and his mother died when he was 20, so he developed his own initiative. He loved to get up in the morning and go to work, was known for his dry sense of humor, and there wasn’t anything you couldn’t talk to John about as he was so well-read.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy of Warwick; a sister-in-law, Carmela Mariano of Warwick; and a godson, Daniel Obarski.
Visitation was held Oct. 22 at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home in Warwick.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 23 St. Stephen R.C. Church, followed by interment in Warwick Cemetery.
