John Kowalyk
John Kowalyk of the Village of Florida, a retired plant operator for the sewer department of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in Florida, N.Y., entered into rest Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick. He was 85.
The son of John and Helene Kowalyk, he was born March 27, 1927, in Newburgh.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church and Seward Senior Citizens in the Village of Florida. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he was stationed in Manila.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marion Kowalyk at home; son Christopher and his wife Dawn of Lake Ariel, Pa.; daughter Lisa Kowalyk of Middletown; daughter Lois Augustyn of Deerpark; and daughter Mariann Wagner and her husband John of Walden; his grandchildren: Justin Kowalyk, Shawn Brown, Ryan Kowalyk and Steven Wagner; and several nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by a grandson, Christopher Brown; a sister, Anne O’Boy; and two brothers, Michael and Peter.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Dec. 30, from 2 to 5 p.m. at T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 22 Glenmere Ave., Florida.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, Dec. 31, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. The Rev. Joseph Tokarczyk will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
