John H. Gerbehy

    John H. Gerbehy of Warwick (and formerly of River Vale, N.J.) passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 12, 2012. He was 86 years old.

    Born Jan. 29, 1926, in Hoboken, N.J., he was the son of John H. Gerbehy Sr. and Helena Muller Gerbehy.

    He was married to Gloria (Anderson) Gerbehy for more than 60 wonderful years.

    John served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he was a Navy Signalman, 2nd Class, serving in the Pacific on the LSM 250.

    He was a union carpenter foreman with Kennedy Construction, Hackensack Local 15.

    A member of St. Stephen’s R.C. Church, he also belong to the Holy Name Society at St. Andrew’s Church in Westwood, N.J.

    John was presented with the Liberty Mutual Lifesaver Medal for “saving a human life” on Nov. 19, 1958.

    He is survived by his wife Gloria of Warwick; his children Steven Gerbehy and his wife Christine of Warwick, Kim Frawley and her husband Michael of Warwick, Jay Gerbehy and his wife Nancy of Califon, N.J., and Kerry Hacker and her husband Michael of Saddle Brook, N.J.; nine grandchildren: Erin, Sean, Kelsey, Ryan, Kirsten, Rachel, Emily, Reilly and John.

    A sister, Helen, predeceased him.

    A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, May 16, at 10:30 a.m., followed by private cremation.
