John A. Porter
John A. Porter of Warwick (formerly of Westchester) passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Schervier Pavilion. He was 98 years old.
Born Dec. 30, 1915, in Brooklyn, he was the son of Albert and Augusta (Eden) Porter.
He was married to Margaret King Porter.
John served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy. He was an insurance agent with Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company in White Plains before retiring.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret King Porter, of Warwick; two step-children: Greg King of Wayne, N.J., and Steven King and his wife Meryl, and grandson Liam, of Caldwell, N.J. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, with whom he had close relationships.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 30, from 3 to 5 p.m., at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home, followed by interment in Orange County Veterans Cemetery with military honors.
