Joel Benjamin Palmer of Bethpage, Tenn., passed away peacefully on Feb. 8, 2017, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Joel was born Aug. 25, 1956, to Walter K. and Margaret M. Palmer in Poughkeepsie.
The family moved to Warwick in 1959. Joel attended St. Stephen's Elementary School and graduated from Warwick Valley High School in 1974.
He then served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1974 until his honorable discharge in 1978.
Joel spent many years living in the Southwest where he pursued his passion: writing and performing music. Joel was multi-instrumental and was a member of several bands as well as a soloist.
He was a free spirit and gentle soul and is sorely missed.
Joel was pre-deceased by his brother Peter Palmer. His remaining siblings are brothers Ted, Jon and Chris Palmer and his sister, Maryjo Cousens.
There will be a celebration of his life in Grand Junction, Colorado, in September.
