James E. Linekin Jr. of Sterling Forest passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, in Sarasota, Fla. He was 93 years old.
Born on Sept. 20, 1924, in Brooklyn, he was the son of James E. Linekin, Sr. and Rita Marguerite Hayes.
Mr. Linekin served with the U.S. Navy in aviation during World War II and was a member of the Arthur Finnegan American Legion Post 1443 in Greenwood Lake and the Greenwood Lake Elks.
He was an acting Battalion Chief/Fire Captain in the New York City Fire Department.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Church in Greenwood Lake and St. Michaels Church in Sarasota, Fla.
He is remembered as a very independent person who lived life to the fullest with no regrets. We will always remember his stories and contagious laughter.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Theresa (Duffy) Linekin; his son James Linekin III (Shawn) of Sarasota, Fla.; his daughter Lenore Linekin-Bottjer (Jeff) of Miller Place on Long Island; his grandchildren; brothers: Evert Linekin (Kathleen), Gerald Linekin, and Robert Linekin; sisters Peggy Brennan and Patricia Linekin.
He was preceded in death by his son Chris Linekin, brothers Larry and Paul Linekin, sisters Phyllis Linekin and Jeanne Wecker, sister-in-law Patricia Linekin and brother-in-law Billy Brennan.
Visitation was held May 24 at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home in Warwick.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated May 25 at Holy Rosary Church in Greenwood Lake, followed by interment in St. Charles Cemetery on Long Island.
