    James D. Smith (Smitty) of Chester, a retired employee of United Parcel Service for 30 years, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill. He was 80 and had been a resident of the area for 45 years.

    The son of Alexander and Elizabeth Smith, he was born Oct. 16, 1932, in Tarrytown.

    He was a United State Air Force veteran, having served his country with distinction during the Korean War.

    He was an avid Mets and Giants fan.

    James is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joan at home, and their children: James and his wife Denise Smith of Chester, Joanne Iannuzzi and her husband Gene of Greenville, Jeanne McGuigan and her husband Tom of Chester and John Smith and his companion Jackie Matuszewski of the Village of Florida; his sisters Peggy Downing and her husband Terry of Keansburg, N.J., and Rose Smith of Lady Lake, Fla., and brother-in-law John Elter and his wife Pat of Chester, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

    He is also survived by his grandchildren Justin, Gene and his wife Kaitlyn, Jamee, Vincent and his wife Lindsay, Nicholas and Morgan, along with his three great grandchildren Gene, Keegan, Cameron.

    There will be no public wake.

    Graveside services with military honors will be on Thursday, Nov. 15, at Orange County Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen.
