Irene Dorothea Voorhis

    Irene Dorothea Voorhis of Warwick passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at Westchester Medical Center. She was 80 years old.

    Born on July 18, 1933, in Wilmington, Del., she was the daughter of Erich O. and Dorothy E. (Weiss) Meyer.

    She was the widow of Allan A. Voorhis.

    Irene was retired as a driver for Operation Wheels Ecumenical Council in Warwick.

    She also was a bus driver with Warwick Valley Schools.

    Irene was an active member of the Democratic Party and had served as treasurer and was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Warwick.

    She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Jean Orr and her husband James III of Howells; her son Eric Arthur Voorhis and his wife Mia of Gulfport, Fla.; six grandchildren: James D. Orr IV, Eric A Voorhis Jr., Thomas M. Orr, Dillon D. Voorhis, Ashley H. Voorhis and Nichole B. Voorhis; a sister, Barbara U. Weller of Highland Lakes, N.J.; a brother-in-law, Art Voorhis and his wife Joanne of Woodshole, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

    She was predeceased by her companion, William Ted Fitzhenry, and a brother-in-law, Eberhard Weller.

    The family would like to thank John Cleary and his family for all of their help and support.
