Henry J. Beattie

Henry J. Beattie, known to many as “Hank” and to his wife as “Joe,” passed away on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018. He was a 45-year resident of Warwick (formerly of New York City).
Born in New York City, he was the son of Harry and Catherine (nee Moran) Beattie.
Henry was a retired lieutenant of the New York City Police Department and a former president of the Orange County Shields.
He was a parishioner of St. Stephen Church in Warwick.
Among his various assignments in the New York City Police Department, he was most proud of his work as the Commanding Officer of the Crime Scene Unit and the Manhattan Special Victims Unit.
Among many other positions, he was a teacher at John Jay College and SUNY Orange and was the security director for a number of organizations, including the HELP Organization and Hôtel Plaza Athénée.
Henry is survived by his wife of 51 years Kathleen (nee Euell) of Warwick and his five sons: Richard Beattie and his wife Melanie of Warwick; Timothy Beattie and his wife Jean of Florida, N.Y.; Thomas Beattie and his partner Nicole of Chandler, Arizona; Steven Beattie of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania; and William Beattie and his wife Katharine of Scarsdale. Also surviving are his nine grandchildren: Lily, Luke, Morgan, Christopher, Mackenzie, Nicholas, Joseph, Olivia and James; his sister Ann Murphy and her husband William of Wellesley, Mass.; nieces Kathleen and Maureen; and nephew Kyle.
He was pre-deceased by his nephew Michael.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Sept. 6 at St. Stephen RC Church.
Interment followed.
