Gerard R. Sweeney of Greenwood Lake passed away Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, at St. Anthony Community Hospital. He was 73 years old.
Born on June 27, 1944, in the Bronx, he was the son of Manus and Anna (Duffy) Sweeney.
He was married to Marilyn (Drape) Sweeney.
He served with the National Guard for seven years. Gerard was a retired New York City Transit Police Officer and was presently a Mail Carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Greenwood Lake.
He loved gardening, was a sports fanatic, enjoying both football and baseball, and he loved history and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Greenwood Lake; his daughters: Kerry Guihan and her husband Stephen of Ossining, Lori Anastasio and her husband Anthony of Greenwood Lake, and Jill Evers and her husband Brendan of Scottsdale, Az.. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Alexa Anastasio, Anthony Anastasio, Matthew Anastasio, Andrew Guihan and Olivia Guihan.
He was predeceased by a brother, Daniel Sweeney, and a sister, Gertrude McAteer.
Visitation will be on Sunday, Dec. 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.
Funeral service will be at noon on Monday, Dec. 18, at Grace Lutheran Church, Greenwood Lake, followed by interment in Warwick Cemetery.
