Freida T. Baird
Freida T. Baird, whose career as a teacher spanned 42 years, passed away Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at Glen Arden in Goshen. She was 98 and was the widow of Leonard H. Baird at Bairdlea Farms in Chester.
Freida was the daughter of Arthur and Ada Abrams Tuttle. She was born June 9, 1914, at Waterville.
Her 42-year career as a teacher began in a one-room schoolhouse in North Brookfield. She later taught at Brookfield, Central Valley, Washingtonville, where she was the reading specialist, and finally Title 1 work at the Goshen Intermediate School.
Freida was a member of NYSUT, MARTA, the Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a past member of University Women of Warwick, past president of the Chester Public Library, a member of the Rural Book club and a member of the Sugar Loaf Methodist Church.
She was a graduate of SUNY Oneonta, and did graduate work at NYU, Temple University, Mt. St. Marys and Syracuse University.
Survivors include her two sons; James and his wife Hope of Goshen and Michael of West Chester, Ohio; and grandchildren Michael and his wife Annessa of Austin, Texas, Whitney of Goshen, Alicia and her husband Benjamin Watterson of Oakland, California, Grace Anna, Mary Dorothy, Charles, and Lucy of New York City; and a great grandson, Hudson Allan Baird of Austin, Texas.
The family would like to thank the staff at Glen Arden, especially at the Life Care Center, for the years of excellent compassionate care.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service celebrating Freidas life will be held Saturday, Aug. 18, at 11 a.m. at the Sugar Loaf United Methodist Church, 1387 Kings Highway, Sugar Loaf.
Burial will be held privately in the Warwick Cemetery.
