Emma Kyle Kimpel

Emma Stokes Kyle Kimpel, beloved mother and grandmother and formerly of Warwick, passed away peacefully on Monday Nov. 19, 2012, at Southland Nursing Home in Peachtree City, Ga., surrounded by family and friends. She was 84.
Emma was born in Richmond, Va., and grew up in West Hartford, Conn. She attended the Chaffee School in Windsor, Conn. – class of 1946 - and then Sweet Briar College in Virginia, graduating in 1950.
She was married to the late Helmut Kimpel for 53 years.
Emma and Helmut moved to Warwick in 1961, building their home and raising their family as one of the original residents in Points of View.
Emma loved the Warwick countryside, often painting and photographing its many beautiful scenes.
She worked for many years at The Warwick Advertiser during the late 1960s and 1970s in the ad layout department and also as a news photographer. Her “Mystery Photo” was a weekly feature.
Emma and Helmut retired to Rio Rancho, N.M., in 1985. For her, this truly was “The Land of Enchantment.” She found much fulfillment and pleasure in this new Southwest environment, never tiring of all its artistic offerings from hot air balloon festivals, to desert landscapes and cultural life in the many Indian pueblos.
Emma’s other passion was for the water – oceans, beaches, cruising and swimming.
She was a devoted wife and mother and is survived by her son Lt. Col. Gordon Kimpel and his wife Gail (Van Duzer), grandson Jason of Peachtree City; son Thomas Kimpel and his wife Linda (Purcell) of Southbury, Conn., granddaughter Lindsay of San Francisco; daughter Alice (Kimpel) Boyle and her husband Todd, grandsons Thomas, Bryan and Jay, all from Dennis, Mass..
Emma wanted to be remembered as “one who liked beauty, harmony, justice and peace.”
There will be a celebration of her life on Cape Cod in the spring.
Donations in her memory may be made to The American Red Cross.
