Emil R. Krahulik of Hewitt, N.J., passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013. He was 79.

He was born Sept. 30, 1933, in Brooklyn. He was the son of Dr. Lambert and Elizabeth Krahulik and was predeceased by his sister, Marie Krahulik.

Emil was a distinguished and respected attorney. He joined John J. Beattie in the practice of law in Warwick in 1959 and became a partner in the firm of Beattie & Krahulik in 1961. He served as general counsel to The Warwick Savings Bank and represented the Lehigh & Hudson River Railroad as well as countless members of the community.

He was an avid reader and loved history, particular that of the Greenwood Lake area. He was also an enthusiastic hiker and spent many hours on the Appalachian Trail. He was a sailor and member of the Awosting Yacht Squadron where he raced Snipes, Lightnings and Star one design sailboats his entire life. He loved the waters of Greenwood Lake.

Emil was a caring father, devoted husband and enjoyed being surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife Christel Krahulik of Hewitt, N.J.; his son Bob Krahulik and his wife Christine of Warwick; his son Jon Krahulik and his wife Sherri of Belvedere, Calif.; his daughter Karen Krahulik and her partner Susan Allee of Manhattan; and five grandchildren: Thomas Krahulik, Katherine Krahulik, Sydney Krahulik, Gage Krahulik and Sonya Krahulik Allee.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home, followed by interment in Greenwood Lake Cemetery Greenwood Lake.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Albert Wisner Public Library Foundation, One McFarland Drive, Warwick, New York, 10990.
