Dorothy Shelton Martin
Dorothy Shelton Martin, 95, mother of retired Warwick Advertiser editor and publisher Stan Martin, died Jan. 29, 2013, in Lake Charles, La.
She was born Aug. 20, 1917, in London, England to Arthur and Dorothy Shelton. The family moved to the Bermuda Islands where she met her first husband, John Hewitt Mitchell, and later her second husband, C. E. Martin, a master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. The family traveled extensively before his retiring in Boise, Idaho.
Both husbands and a son, William Mitchell, predeceased her. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Leatham of Idaho and Carol Fleming of Louisiana, and two sons, Stan Martin of Goshen and Michael Martin of Colorado, 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Three of her granddaughters are graduates of Warwick Valley High School: Danamarie Welch of Warwick, Torilyn Martin Lynch of Hawaii, and Dr. MaryK Martin Geyer of Phoenix, Ariz.
Dorothy was noted for her singing abilities. Until she was 92, she sang with the “Foot Notes,” a group on men and women mostly in their 70s and 80s. They performed around the Boise Valley, including performances for the Idaho governor.
Services will be held in Louisiana.
