    Doris Lee Rish of Warwick entered into rest on Monday, June 3, 2013, in Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill. She was 83.

    The daughter of Homer Durell Bryan and Annie Lee Wilson, she was born July 2, 1929, in Jasper, Alabama.

    She was a devout Christian whose faith and uplifting spirit endeared her to all who loved her and all those she met along the way. She was an avid supporter of Charles Stanley’s “In Touch” Ministries.

    She worked tirelessly for more than 40 years as a registered nurse. In 1965, she became the first civilian nurse to be hired by the Veteran’s Administration in a ceremony attended by officials from Washington, D.C.

    She is survived and will be missed by her five children: Pat Basemore of Dublin, Ga., Janet Jones of Pequot Lakes, Minn., Deborah Bond of Birmingham, Al., Billy McDanal of Birmingham, Al., and her youngest daughter, Lisa Ferruggia of Warwick.

    She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, as well as a sister and two brothers.

    She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Hollis (Holly) Alane Jackson in 1977, her brother, Charles Lonnie Bryan in 2005, and her sister, Carol Jean Vandergriff in 2000.

    Memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m.
