Daniel Regan

Daniel Regan of Warwick (formally of the Bronx) passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021, at home. He was 70 years old.

Born in the Bronx on Dec. 9, 1950, he was one of seven children born to Martin F. and Ruth E. (Krause) Regan.

Danny worked for the New York City Transit Authority as a Third-Rail Foreman for 32 years.

He always held deep pride in being born and raised in the South Bronx, where he first developed his love, passion and obsession for the sport of basketball. Danny played basketball every day of his life from the age of 12 years old. After moving to Warwick in 1998, you may have spotted Danny playing basketball daily at Stanley Deming Park. During his time on the courts, he made friends that shared the same passion for basketball. It would give him great joy when he had the opportunity to provide coaching pointers to younger basketball players.

Danny was the most devoted loving father and husband who always put his family first. He loved his daughters and wife very much. Nothing gave him greater joy than knowing his daughters were happy. He was a simple and kind man whose unwavering generous spirit impacted everyone around him. Whether he was in conversation with people at ShopRite, the courts, or local delis he simply loved people. Regardless of your relationship with him, you definitely had a spot on his Lotto ticket, the other sport he loved (sadly we checked them all, he never won!).

He left us with the loving legacy to always do our best, give to others and lighten the load in whichever way we can. As Danny would often say, “It is what it is, kid!”

Danny is survived by his devoted wife, Julie Regan (Garcia); daughters: Jennifer Regan, Dana Regan, Jenese Hernandez; grandson Jeffrey Ochoa; siblings: Cathy, Jane, Cary and John Regan; nephew Harry Regan. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Marty Regan and sister Susan Regan.

Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, Nov. 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a service at 2 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a local youth basketball program or to Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
