Daniel ‘Paja’ Palmer

Daniel “Paja” Palmer of Florida, a retired fuel oil truck driver for McBride’s in Goshen and a self-employed produce farmer, entered into rest on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, in Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern. He was 84.

The son of Frank Palmer and Anna Heter Palmer, he was born Sept. 15, 1927, in the Village of Florida.

In his earlier days, dad was scouted by the Brooklyn Dodgers and his love for the Yankees lasted throughout his lifetime. He was a manager with the Florida Little League for many years. And he was also an avid ice fisherman.

Dad served as a trustee for the Village of Florida. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Florida, a member of the Benevolent Protection Order of the Elks Lodge# 1097, Middletown, and a former member of the Florida Hunting Club.

He was a 61-year member and former apparatus driver for the Florida Fire Department and a member of its Benevolent Association.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Stasia Tomcho Palmer at home in Florida; son Gary Daniel Palmer of Westtown; daughter Deborah Lee Gerczak and her husband Richard of Florida; son Daniel Joseph Palmer and his wife Sharon of Goshen, son David Gary Palmer and his wife Jody of Middletown; grandchildren Erin Lynn Green and her husband Gary, Jill Danielle Gerczak, Jeffrey Anthony Palmer, Daniel Palmer Jr., and Courtney Lynn and Caitlin Marie Palmer; sisters Virginia Nowak, Rita Nowak and Dolores Palmer; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers Frank and Edward Palmer and his sisters Betty Lord, Pauline Quackenbush and Frances Leinweber.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 21 at St. Joseph Church. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery.
