Dale E. Wood
Dale E. Wood of New Hampton, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. He was 84.
Son of Andrew and Sarah (Hoteling) Wood, he was born Sept. 18, 1929, in Climax, N.Y.
He retired as a harness racing driver trainer. He was a member of the United States Trotting Association and NYS Harness Racing. He graduated from New York University, worked as an electrical engineer for Sperry Rand, and also worked on the Polaris Submarine. He was a member and Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church in Goshen.
The family would like to thank the staff on 2 North, the Chemo/Oncology department at ORMC and Dr. Dinsmore and Dr. Eanelli for the care they provided; and to the Rev. David Kingsley and his wife, Mary, who were a great comfort to Dale and his family.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Orra E. Wood, at home; two daughters, Sandra Wood and husband, John Veninger, and his daughter, Brittany Veninger, of Florida, N.Y.; Amy Wood and fiancée, Marc Berardinelli, and her two sons, Ian and Jordon Depew of Allentown, Pa.; two sisters, Joyce Copleston and husband, Jeremy, of Coxsackie, N.Y., and Virginia Longthon of Albany; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Stanley Wood; and his Uncle Grant and Aunt Millie, who instilled in Dale his lifelong love for horses.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, at the First Presbyterian Church in Goshen, 33 Park Place, Goshen. The Rev. David Kingsley will officiate.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
