Catharina TerMetz Jansen

    Catharina (Tini) TerMetz Jansen passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at the Valley View Center for Nursing Care and Rehab in Goshen. She was 96.

    Born in Haarlem, Holland, on Aug. 14 1915, to Simon and Catharina TerMetz; Tini was the youngest of eight children, all who predeceased her.

    She was married to Jacobus (Jack) Jansen for 58 years. Mr. Jansen passed away in 1999.

    In 1956, Tini and Jack and their three children immigrated to the United States, where they eventually settled in Clifton, N.J.

    Tini was a homemaker, who kept busy running her household, while enjoying her sewing and needlepoint.

    When Jack retired, they travelled extensively and took many trips through America, Canada, South America and Europe.

    She is survived by her son Jan and his wife Elizabeth of the Village of Florida and her daughter Ineke Pierpoint and her husband George III of White Plains. She was predeceased by her youngest son Henk in 1998.

    She also is survived by her eight grandsons: Scott Jansen and his companion Patti Price of Chester; Jay Jansen and his wife Beth of Mattituck; Ben Jansen and his wife Stacy of New Hampton; George Pierpoint IV and his wife Jen of Oceanview, N.J.; Rob Pierpoint and his wife Sue of Tully; David Jansen of Garfield, N.J.; Joe and Timothy Jansen of Deland, Fla.; and nine great grandchildren: Shane, Evan, Emily and Lily Jansen; Travis, Logan, Ryan, Garrett and Megan Pierpoint.

    Tini also leaves her sister-in-law Amelia (Willy) Metz and her children Carina DeLorenzo, Lia Hahofer, Marcus Metz and their families; also nieces Femi Roecker and Liz Jankowski; nephews Bert Willemse and Louis Jansen and their families; along with many nieces and nephews in Holland.

    Her family’s statement reads: “’Big Oma” was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She especially loved the family gatherings on Holidays and birthdays. We are happy that she was able to enjoy such a long life. She will be missed by us all.”

    Tini’s family would like to thank the staff of Valley View Nursing Home, who took great care of her for the last six years.

    A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, June 16, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 22 Glenmere Ave., Florida, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at St. Joseph’s Church in Florida.
