Catha Maslow Horton

Catha Maslow Horton passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, June 7, 2015, in the presence of her immediate family after a year-long bout with cancer. She was 71 years old and a resident of Warwick for 42 years.
The daughter of Will and Beatrice Maslow – formerly of New York City – she was born March 11, 1944, in Washington, D.C., and raised in Hewlett.
Catha was pre-deceased by her father, Will Maslow. She is survived by her 104-year-old mother Beatrice Maslow, now of Brookline, Massachusetts; her husband of 38 years, David Horton of Warwick; her son Noah Maslow Horton, his wife Molly Loeb Horton and grandson Zachary Cathan Horton of San Francisco, California; her stepson Aaron Horton and his wife Luo Xiao Ping of Xiamen, China; her sister Laura Maslow Armand of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Catha graduated from George W. Hewlett High School in 1962. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Barnard College in 1966 and a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Brandeis University in 1970.
After completing a three-year training program at the Ackerman Institute for the Family in 1984, she completed a Masters of Social Work from Adelphi University in 1986.
She also successfully completed the advanced training in Ericksonian hypnotherapy at the NY Milton H. Erickson Society for Psychotherapy and Hypnosis in 1993.
From 1988 until recently, Catha maintained a private psychotherapy practice in individual and couples therapy in Warwick.
Private cremation arrangements were conducted by Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home. A private ceremony was held.
At Catha’s request, a public celebration of her life will be held in Warwick in approximately three months.
A second private family celebration will be held in Brookline, Massachusetts, to accommodate her family. The time and place of both events will be announced at a later time.
Memorial donations should be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, Inc. or Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.
