Carol Jeanne Porvaznik of Warwick passed away in the familiar comfort of her childhood home, surrounded by family and friends, on Oct. 6, 2018. She was 74 years old.
She was born in Brooklyn on Feb. 26, 1944, to parents Bruce and Jeanne (Sailliard) Hoag, and raised in Warwick.
She married John Porvaznik II and as a loving military wife resided in Florida, Michigan and Maryland.
Carol worked many years as an administrative assistant at both Oxon Hill Lutheran Church and Rose Valley Elementary School in Maryland.
She enjoyed crosswords and was an avid reader.
From her special rocking chair in the school library, “Grammy” inspired young minds to also become readers through her colorful and adventurous story-telling.
In 1999, she returned to New York to care for her mother and worked several more years at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Warwick.
Carol enjoyed traveling, summer stays at the beach in North Carolina, time with family and her faithful standard poodle, Crissy.
Carol is survived by her husband of 54 years, John at home; daughter Amber Ewing and grandson Shawn Wiggen of Leonardtown, Maryland; son John Porvaznik III, daughter in-law Jennifer and grandsons Kameron, Damon and Michael Porvaznik of Cary, North Carolina; and brother Robert Hoag of Bristol, Tennessee.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 101 Main Street, Chester.
The family would like to thank the caring nurses and staff of Hospice and Schervier Pavilion for their wonderful care for Carol.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Carol’s memory to the Warwick Valley Humane Society, P.O. Box 61, Warwick, NY 10990.
