BOCES to host celebration of life for Manny Axelrod

GOSHEN — A celebration to honor the life of Emanuel “Manny” Axelrod will be held in the Emanuel Axelrod Education Center on the Orange-Ulster BOCES campus, 53 Gibson Road, Goshen, on Sunday, April 21, at 2 p.m.
Axelrod died at his home in Florida on March 21.
Axelrod served as district superintendent and executive officer of Orange-Ulster BOCES for 19 years from 1974 to 1993. He was a powerful educational leader not only in the Hudson Valley but also throughout New York State.
Locally, he was the driving force behind the construction of the state-of-the-art education center located on BOCES’ campus that bears his name today. He was a strong proponent for technical education and was proud of the timely programs offered to high school students by the Career & Technical Education Center.
“He also believed and supported work force development initiatives for adult students through BOCES Adult Education program,” BOCES officials said in their press release announcing the program. “His life was dedicated to making the world a better place for all and his legacy as a passionate and spirited educator will long endure.”
The public is invited to join the Axelrod family and former BOCES colleagues and friends to celebrate the man’s life.
