Bernard “Bernie” Punim of Middletown entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Park Manor Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Middletown. He was 90 years old.
The son of Louis Punim and Yetta (Schwartz) Punim, Bernard was born on May 21, 1927, in the Bronx.
Bernard was a Commercial Ink Salesman for Siebold Company, Inc. in New York City.
Bernard honorably and proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
Bernie was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He was an avid volunteer in the community, including Arden Hill Hospital, Orange Regional Medical Center, Boy Scouts USA, Lyceum Theatre, Winslow Therapeutic Center and the Warwick Valley Humane Society.
Bernie had a passion for restoring old clocks and his family will treasure those he shared with them.
Of all of the joys in his life, his greatest was being a grandparent. He will be greatly missed.
Bernard is survived by his loving wife Rita (Bornstein) Punim of Middletown; his sons: Dr. Todd Punim and his wife Ellen of Monroe and Jay Punim of Middletown; his grandchildren: Dr. Aaron M. Punim and his girlfriend Brittney, Danielle Punim and Ross J. Punim, Allison Backus, Amy Heimowitz, Jillian Backus, Reid Backus and Harrison Heimowitz; and his sister Natalie Frumin.
A grave side service and interment with military honors was held May 8 at the Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Goshen.
