Beatrice S. Pinckney, formerly of Warwick, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at the Laurels Assisted Living Residence in Pineville, N.C. She was 93.

Beatrice was born Sept. 22, 1919, in Warwick, the daughter of Edwin Floyd Still and Matilda Carson Still (who herself was born in Warwick on July, 14, 1881.

She was predeceased by Harry Pinckney, her husband of 62 years in April 2004 and by her sister Caroline S. Weller of Goshen in July 1970.

After she and Harry graduated from Warwick High School, they married on Nov. 20, 1941, at Christ Episcopal Church in Warwick.

Mrs. Pinckney was the librarian at the Albert Wisner Memorial Library for 10 years from 1947 to 1957. She will be remembered as an avid reader who, as the librarian, helped many students with their research and homework.

Following her employment at the library she worked for the next 20 years as the bookkeeper for Parkin Plumbing and Heating in Warwick.

In 1980, following Harry’s retirement as Warwick branch manager of the Chester National Bank, they moved from their home of 36 years on Campbell Road to Mount Dora, Fla.

After her husband’s death in 2004, Beatrice moved to Charlotte, N.C., to live with her daughter and son-in-law. In 2008, she moved into a nearby assisted living facility.

Having lost most of her vision due to macular degeneration – but never losing her love of books and reading – she relied on the books and services from the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically handicapped. While living in Charlotte, she read more than 2,000 audio books using this service.

Survivors include her daughter, Lee Pinckney Condit and her husband, Lt. Col. Thomas Condit (USAF/Retired) of Charlotte, N.C.; granddaughter Jennifer Harrison and her husband, Damon, of Charlotte, N.C.; grandson Maj. Scott Condit, USAF, and his wife, Christine, of Niceville, Fla.; and eight great-grandchildren.

Cremation services were handled by Heritage Funeral and Cremation Services in Matthews, N.C.

A private family memorial service will be held in November.

Interment will be at a later date in the Warwick Valley Cemetery.
