Nicole Arrabito receives scholarship from Indiana U

Monroe Nicole Arrabito of Monroe, a junior at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, Pa., has received the 2001 Esko E. Newhill Scholarship for Excellence. She was selected for the $1,000 scholarship for having a grade point average of 3.25 or better as a sociology major, showing volunteer interest in specific humanities, and interest and knowledge of world affairs. Arrabito, the daughter of Carolyn and Larry Santaniello, Heritage Lane, is a 2003 graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School. She is a dean’s list student and a member of the Provost School at the university; participated in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Summer Honors Program to Paris; is a member of the university symphony, is secretary of SAGE (Students Advocating Gender Equality), and volunteers at the local domestic violence shelter. The scholarship, established in honor of the late Dr. Esko Newhill, professor emeritus of sociology and one of the founders of the university’s sociology department, is a tuition award presented to an outstanding junior majoring in sociology at the departmental graduation ceremonies. The university is a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
