Monroe native to work on Washingtonville High School expansion
Monroe Monroe native Ed Leonard recently joined Verticon Ltd. of Monroe as site superintendent of the Washingtonville School District’s high school expansion project. Leonard has worked on heavy construction projects for the past 26 years, most of them in New York City and Westchester County. Over the last several years, Leonard has been involved in the restoration and reconstruction of the sea walls around Roosevelt Island in the East River, and has worked on the restoration of Morningside Park in The Bronx. Most recently, he acted as the site supervisor of the Yonkers Racino project through its early stages late last year. Now Leonard is prepared to bring those skills home to oversee Verticon’s $3.5 million Washingtonville High School expansion project. “I’ve had a lifelong friendship with [Verticon owners] Alan and Irving Zuckerman,” Leonard said. “I jumped at the opportunity to work with a company that is progressive and growing.” The 25,000-square-foot, three-story addition to the high school in Washingtonville will include 13 classrooms, three resource rooms, three offices, a computer repair room. There are also plans to make improvements to the existing building. Work is expected to be completed by the end of January. Verticon is a Monroe-based construction services company that provides construction management and general contracting services, and is operated by the Zuckermans, a local family who has been in the construction business for three generations.
