Photo by Ed Bailey Gertrude Zane of Warwick holds a letter she received from President Obama. She had written the president, telling him to bring the troops home. He wished her a happy 102nd birthday.
WARWICK Warwick resident Gertrude Zane and her family celebrated her 102nd birthday at a large party held earlier this month at a Middletown restaurant.
Born in Poland, she arrived at Ellis Island when she was just eight years old. Today, she is the matriarch of a large family, with 20 grand children, each with children of their own.
No matter what, though, Gertrude does not forget her origins as she continues to donate and contribute to many charities, such as the Wounded Warriors project, the Feed the Children program and others.
Happy birthday, Gertrude.
