Central Valley - Monroe-Woodbury High School Principal Aldo Filippone has awarded “Pursuit of Excellence” awards to Nancy Flanagan and members of the school’s Interact Club. This group of 150 students has participated in numerous activities that benefited the school and the community, such as the annual Breast Cancer Walk in October at the Woodbury Common, a spaghetti dinner, field trips to provide companionship to the elderly and the annual Harlem Wizards basketball game. All funds and proceeds collected through these activities are donated to needy local community organizations as well as to promote numerous school initiatives. “Nancy Flanagan has been a vital member of the Monroe-Woodbury High School Science Department since 1999,” said Filippone in a press release. “In addition to her many responsibilities as a science teacher, she also serves as a mentor for new faculty in the Science Department. “She is best known for her endless dedication and efforts on behalf of the students and staff at Monroe-Woodbury,” the principal added. “Her gift of teaching and leading is truly outstanding. At any given time, she can be found tutoring, advising, and/or mentoring students after school. Her leadership of the Interact Club resulted in numerous activities that benefited the less fortunate. Her positive energy and pleasant disposition are greatly appreciated by all who come in contact with her. “It is indeed an honor to present the ‘Pursuit of Excellence’ to Nancy Flanagan ... and to the members of the Interact Club for their outstanding efforts, dedication and commitment in helping those in need,” Filippone added.
