Monroe — For a second year in a row, sixteen year-old cellist and Monroe-Woodbury High School junior Madeline Huberth was chosen to perform with the National Festival Orchestra at New York’s Carnegie Hall. On Monday, Jan. 16, the orchestra played “Shostakovich’s Symphony Number 5” in Isaac Stern Auditorium, under the direction of conductor Benjamin Zander. Huberth was one of the youngest members of the students from across the country selected for the concert. Huberth began playing the cello when she was nine. A member of the Allegro Baroque Ensemble, her teacher Viktoras Prizgintas has enrolled her as a member of the Allegro Training Orchestra. AS well, she is principal cellist with the Monroe-Woodbury Chamber Orchestra, the College Youth Symphony of SUNY New Paltz, the Hudson Valley Youth Orchestra, and the Mid-Hudson Youth Orchestra. In between all her performances and practices, Huberth finds time to study at the Manhattan School of Music’s pre-college program. In addition to the cello, she is an accomplished pianist, and has been featured in performances at Eisenhower and Steinway Halls.
