Local students listed for success

News of the academic success of local students continues to come into the newsroom. Here is a summary of the latest: • Cadet Hannah Kate Leadbetter, the daughter of Howard and Beth Leadbetter of Pine Island, has been named to the dean’s list at the U.S. Military Academy for the fall 2005 semester. A cadet must maintain a 3.0 average in all courses to earn a place on the dean’s list. Leadbetter graduated from Warwick Valley High School in 2003. She plans to gradaute from West Point in 2007 and be commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. • Emily Thompson of Warwick was named to the dean’s list at Syracuse University for the fall 2005 semester. She is in her first year in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in International Relations. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must maintain a 3.4 grade point average while carrying a minimum of 12 credits during the semester. • Tricia Dugan, a 2004 graduate of S. S. Seward Institute in Florida, was named to the dean’s list at Dominican College for the fall 2005 Semester. The daughter of Karen and Mike Dugan, she is majoring in special education. • Sarah Simmons-Payne, a graduate of Warwick Valley High School and the daughter of John and Linda Payne, was named to the dean’s list at Fairfield University for the fall 2005 semester. Simmons-Payne, who achieved a 4.0 GPA last semester, is a marketing and communications major. She also has an internship at the marketing firm, the Ryan Partnership. • Zachary Celizic of Warwick was awarded approximately $3,200 for the “All-American Scholarship” to attend Alfred State College. Celizic is slated to graduate in 2006 from Warwick Valley High School and intends to enroll in the undeclared major program. The “All-American Scholarship” (free board) is awarded to students who possess an 88 or better high school average through their junior year and who have achieved at least a 1100 combined SAT score or a composite ACT score of 24. Recipients must maintain a required GPA (grade point average) to continue to receive free board in subsequent semesters.
