Local council receives international recognition

    Warwick — Knights of Columbus Council # 4958 of Warwick is a Father McGivney Award winner for the 2004-2005 fraternal year. Named after the organization’s founder, Father Michael J. McGivney, the award is in recognition of outstanding membership recruitment and retention efforts. The announcement was made by the Knights of Columbus international headquarters located in New Haven, Conn. Burt Struble, district director, presented the engraved plaque award to the council at a special ceremony, held on October 12, 2005. Tom Coughlin, head of the local council, accepted the award. Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson, president of the international organization, in recognizing the local winner, said “The dedication to the principles and aims of the order shown by your officers and members is exemplified by the high standards and excellence you have achieved. At the same time, I encourage you to carry forward this enthusiasm to meet the challenges that will face the Knights of Columbus in the years ahead. May this award be a reminder and an inspiration to the members of your council to continue to promote the idea of Columbianism for the good of the church, your community and the order”. The order is a Catholic, family, fraternal, service organization, with nearly 1.7 million dues-paying members world-wide.
