Tuxedo Park - Officer Michael Cruger of the town of Haverstraw Police Department became the 25 recipient of the Police Officer Jason D. Conklin award by the Rockland Police Academy. Cruger was one of the police recruits who graduated from the Rockland Police Academy on Dec. 16. Drill Instructors choose a recruit in each graduating class who most exemplifies Conklin’s character which was dedication and motivation. Conklin was a police officer for the village of Tuxedo Park Police Department who lost his life in the line of duty in 1997. The scholarship was established to assist individuals possessing his character with the finances to pursue their goals of becoming a police officer. The scholarship has been used for college and/or the police academy tuition. The Scholarship Fund Committee also awarded Cruger with a savings bond. The fund is financed by donations raised from an annual venison dinner and golf outing that Conklin’s family holds. This year’s venison dinner will be held Saturday, Feb. 4 at 6 p.m at the American Legion Post 488 on Lakes Road in Monroe.
