Four scouts in Troop 152 earn Eagle awards

Chester - Four young men from Troop #152 of Chester earned their Eagle awards on Sept. 30 during ceremonies at the Presbyterian Church in Chester: Scouts Matthew Schenk, Curtis Van Ness, Brian Goodrich, and John Kraai. To reach the rank of Eagle, the scouts had to complete 21 merit badges, hold positions of leadership in the troop, and perform an act of public service. Many dignitaries, scouts and family were present at the ceremony. Matthew Schenk’s Eagle project consisted of the landscaping, design and construction for the Chester Volunteer Ambulance Building. He is a junior at Warwick Valley High School where he continues to earn honor roll and high honor roll grades. Matthew is a forward with the Warwick Ice Hockey Team and a cross-country runner. Curtis Van Ness’s Eagle project consisted of designing and constructing a new sign for the Chester Presbyterian Church. Learning to coordinate, plan out, and see through this very in depth project has taught Curtis a lifelong lesson of teamwork, which he will remember throughout his life. Curtis has completed his first year as a truck and diesel mechanic at Alfred Stage College. He earned his inspector’s license and is presently in his second year at Alfred Stage College. He graduated from Monroe-Woodbury High School. Brian Goodrich’s Eagle project consisted of designing and building a new deck and fire pit area adjacent to the outdoor Florida Ice Skating Rink. Brian is a senior this year at S.S. Seward and is attending the New Visions program studying law. Brian is an avid reader, enjoys acting in the Drama Club and playing golf. John Kraai’s Eagle project consisted of building six bookcases for the Albert Wisner Public Library in Warwick. John is a graduate of the Warwick Valley High School and is studying at the University of Arts in Philadelphia, majoring in photography.
