And gains recognition for osteoporosis screening program NEWBURGH — Elant Choice, a home- and community-based managed long-term care program that is part of Elant Health and Housing Solutions, has been recognized by a national quality improvement organization for two health care initiatives. The Island Peer Review Organization recently recognized Elant Choice for its best practices in pharmacy review, an award that was granted based on the managed care program’s use of innovative software that identifies and tracks potential drug interactions for the program’s pharmacy clients. Elant beat 11 competing programs to earn the prestigious designation. In their report, the organization noted that Elant Choice’s utilization software offers a more complete study of drug-to-drug interaction analysis, since over-the-counter medications are also entered. The software, purchased in 2004 as part of an initiative to improve clinical practices, is used by nurses when they are in clients’ homes to record visit information, to provide patient teaching materials and to communicate important clinical information to other staff. The Island Peer Review Organization also recognized Elant Choice for its osteoporosis screening, and subsequent treatment of those at risk. The independent, not-for-profit review corporation has been the quality improvement organization of record for New York State since 1989, under contract with the federal government.
