Congregation hires new education director

Monroe Congregation Eitz Chaim of Monroe has welcomed Rabbi Selilah Kalev as the synagogue’s new education director. Kalev will oversee all youth education at Eitz Chaim, from the youngest students in the Gan Shalom Nursery School, to the students in the Hebrew School, to the high school students in the Yom Rishon Club. Kalev brings to her new position extraordinary experience both in Jewish Education and Educational Administration. Most recently, she served as the educational director at Temple Israel Center in White Plains, overseeing a program of over 300 students. Ordained at the University of Judaism in Los Angeles, Kalev has particular expertise in early childhood education, which will serve her well in her work with the Gan Shalom Nursery School. Although she grew up in Alaska, Kalev lives in Mahopac at present, with her husband, Rabbi Joshua Kalev, and their infant daughter, Noa. Kalev wil be an asset both to Eitz Chaim and Gan Shalom, as she brings a wealth of creativity to curriculum development. She will develop newsletters and periodic updates on students’ educational progress, to foster increased communication between parents and both the Hebrew School and Gan Shalom.
