Young men and women from the area continue to earn recognition for their academic achievements. Here is the latest news: Chris Baker, son of Bob and JoAnn Baker of Monroe, was named to the deans list for the 2007 fall semester at SUNY Oneonta. Baker is in his senior year. Katerina Pavlu of Monroe, was named to the fall 2007 dean’s list at Marywood University in Scranton, Pa. She is an elementary and special education major. Kristen Burch of Monroe was named to the fall 2007 semester dean’s list at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn., with a GPA of 3.88. Burch is majoring in finance and accounting; she also plays goalie for the Division I Sacred Heart Pioneers. She is the daughter of Ed and Agnes Burch of Monroe. The following students also were named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield (In order to receive this honor, a student must achieve a 3.6 GPA based on a 4.0 scale): Justine Humphrey of Monroe. Amanda Martellucci of Monroe. The following students are on the dean’s list for the fall 2007 semester from the School of Management at Binghamton University, State University of New York (the criteria for the dean’s honors list is a minimum GPA of 3.75): Christina Maldonado of Chester. Kenneth Cassidy of Highland Mills. Benjamin Elliott of Monroe. Eric Thorsen, a freshman at Manhattan College, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2007 semester. A 2007 graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School, he is the son of Richard and Sharon Thorsen of Monroe. Kayla Briggs, a 2004 graduate of George Baker High School in Tuxedo, has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2007 semester at the College of St. Rose in Albany. To qualify, a student must carry a GPA of at least 3.5. She is a senior and expects to graduate in May with a teaching degree (pre-K to second grade) with a special education certificate. She is the daughter of Skip and Doreen Briggs of Eagle Valley in Tuxedo. Justin Fessler of Monroe, a senior at Binhamton University, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2007 semester. Matthew Badura of Harriman was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2007 semester at LeMoyne College in Syracuse. A graduate of Don Bosco Prep, he is studying marketing and visual arts. He expects to graduate with the class of 2011.
