College highlights
The following is a compilation of the news items that colleges and universities have sent to The Photo News and Warwick Advertiser in recent weeks, acknowledging the accomplishments of local students. The newspapers will continue to publish such items as they come in. Two Highland Mills residents are scheduled to complete their baccalaureate studies in December at SUNY Oswego: Keri Dorsey in history. Diana E. Rogers in marketing. Ashley Cohen of Monroe was a member of the 2005 SUNY Oneonta State women’s soccer team that finished 21-1-1 overall while winning the SUNYAC championship for the seventh year in a row. The team qualified for its seventh straight NCAA tournament and advanced to the sectional championship. Cohen, a graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School, played in 22 games with one start, earning five points on two goals and an assist. Freshman Mike Sidoti of Pine Island debuted with a second-place finish in the 100 breast stroke and an eighth-place finish in the 50 freestyle for the SUNY Cobleskill Swimming and Diving team in the Donald Macomber Starting Block Classic meet in early November. A week later in the Jamestown Community College Invitation, Sidoti, a graduate of Warwick Valley High School, finished 13th in the 100 backstroke. Janet E. Huberth, daughter of Jon and Betsy Huberth of Monroe, played the role of Viola in Kenyon College’s recent production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. A graduate of Monroe Woodbury High School, Huberth is a sophomore majoring in drama at Kenyon, a private liberal-arts college in central Ohio. Christina Buyea of Harriman, a senior majoring in Business at Manhattan College, has been inducted into the college’s Epsilon Sigma Pi honor society. Only students who have earned a 3.5 average on a 4.0 scale for six consecutive semesters with no academic failures qualify for this academic achievement. Two Monroe residents have been named to the dean’s list for the 2005 fall term ending in November at Johnson & Wales University, with a cumulative grade point average of 3.40 or above. Morgan Gleason is pursuing an associate degree in accounting at the College of Business at the Providence campus. Lisa Serse is pursuing an associate degree in fashion merchandising.
