William H. Bryant

    William H. Bryant passed away on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick. He was 87 years old and a lifelong resident of Warwick.

    Born Oct. 28, 1925, in Warwick, he was the son of Harold and Florence Hocking Bryant.

    He was married to Norma (Scheuermann) Bryant.

    A World War II veteran of the Navy Seabees who served in the Pacific, he was a charter member and past commander of VFW Post #4662.

    Bill retired from International Paper Company as a maintenance mechanic. He was a 63-year member of Excelsior Hose Company No. 1, past chief of the Warwick Fire Department, member of District #6 Past Chiefs, Fire Chiefs Association of Orange County, past commissioner of Warwick Fire District and a member of L&H Railway Veterans Association.

    He was a member of Good Shepherd Church in Warwick.

    Bill also enjoyed woodworking.
    His family’s statement reads: “Bill was a man of few words, but those who knew him, listened closely to them. He was proud of his family, his country and his community. Most of all, he was a caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.”

    Survivors include his wife Norma of Warwick; son William K. Bryant of Warwick; his daughters Donna Lynn Gove of Warwick and Katherine Florence Forsyth of Warwick; three grandchildren: Tami, Jennifer and Robert; step grandchild Jessica; and two great-grandchildren; Kaylie and Emily as well as an expected third great-grandchild, Anna Beth; his sister Ann White of Warwick.

    He was predeceased by his sister Grace Miller.

    Funeral services were to take place Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home in Warwick, followed by interment in Orange County Veterans Cemetery with military honors.
