60th wedding anniversary

Warwick Mr. & Mrs. Vincent S. Conklin, of County Route 1 in Warwick, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their family in Chesapeake, Va. They were married on March 26, 1946. Vincent Conklin was a gunners mate during World War II, and served in the Pacific areas of the Roi Islands, Kwajalein, Atoll Islands, and Marshall Islands. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal with 1 star, and the Navy and Marine medal. He also received a personal citation for heroism by Admiral Nimitz on February 12, 1944. After serving in the Navy, he worked for 42 years for the Rawlplug company in New Rochelle, as the shipping and warehouse manager, until he retired in 1988. Mr. & Mrs. Conklin have three children: Marie McFadden, Regina Ball, and Catherine Conklin; two grandchildren: Stephanie McCombs and Heather Ball; and three great-grandchildren: Samantha, Amanda and Megan McCombs.
