College Admissions Expert Elizabeth Levine: Letter of Recommendation

Attention Juniors in high school. It's time to start thinking about which teachers you are going to ask to write you letters of recommendation.
+ Ask teachers who can write a personal and well written recommendation + Have 2 letters of recommendation written + At least 1 of your letters of recommendation should be from a teacher and preferably a teacher who has taught one of your core course classes (i.e., science, math, English, foreign language or history) + Ask them in the April – May time frame of your junior year since some teachers may like to write their letters of recommendation over the summer. Some may say to you to wait until the beginning of senior year to ask but at least you have planted the seed with them + For those teachers that ask for you to wait to ask them in the fall of your senior year, do so the 1st day of school. You will be surprised how quickly teachers max out on the number of letters they will write
Letters of recommendation are one of the pieces of your application that bring you to life, from another person's perspective, to those college admissions officers that review your application.
