Woodbury steps back into the 1950s this Sunday

Central Valley - The Woodbury Historial Society’s Gatehouse Committee will host an open house on Sunday, March 18, from 2: to 4 p.m. The current exhibit, “Woodbury in the 50’s - Beyond the Front Porch,” is a retrospective highlighting Woodbury in the years after World War II. Committee members will be conducting interviews and accepting photos (to be copied on site and returned) which highlight people’s remembrances of town, family and work life in the late 1940’s and 1950’s. Of particular interest are the recollections of those who were married between 1946 and 1950, who were the first residents of the Skyline Development, and who have photos of their cars from that era for a car exhibit in the Spring. Meanwhile, the “Baby Bricks,” used as a fund raiser for the Gatehouse, have arrived. People could purchase bricks for a “Remembrance Garden” in honor, or in memory, of someone special. The garden will be built in the Spring but all those who purchased one or more bricks may also pick up a small replica “Baby Brick” of each one purchased at the March 18 open house or by calling 928-6378. The original plan was to place the bricks around the flagpole. As the orders were prepared, it became evident that the messages were personal and meaningful to the donors so the commiuttee reevaluated. Out of that came the “Remembrance Garden” and a change of location to between the gatehouse and the Carriage House facing the golf course. The plans will be unveiled in April. Mike DeVenuto, JAL Landscaping, has offered to assist the planning and development of the area.. The plan includes benches, plantings and provisions for expansion.
