Woodbury Historical Society looks to re-create Christmas of years ago' this Sunday

Central Valley - The Woodbury Historical Society’s Gatehouse Committee will replicate the “Christmas of years ago” during its holiday open house on Sunday, Dec. 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Gatehouse Historic Site and Learning Center on Smith Clove Road at Pine Hill Road in Central Valley. The tradition stems from the Callahan family, who with their nine children, celebrated many wonderful holidays in the great stone structure. At the open house, Gatehouse Committee members also will conduct interviews with people who went to work, got married and began families in Woodbury sometime in the late 1940’s and 1950’s. The committee would like to get people’s recollections of Woodbury in the 1950’s: family life, work life, commuting, housing, shopping, etc. An exhibit on “post-WW II Woodbury” is expected to formally open early in 2007 but now is a excellent time to visit Sunday’s Open House and share in the preparations. The public is invited and admission is free. For more information, call 928-6378.
