Woodbury Historical Society hosts open house on Nov. 19

Central Valley - The Woodbury Historical Society will host a special open house on Sunday, Nov. 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. to thank the community for its support in the restoration of the Gatehouse Historic Site and Learning Center. Several new displays will be available: “In the Neighborhood:” A listing of historic sites around Highland Mills and Central Valley. “A Little of This ... and a Little of That:” Tidbits of Woodbury history. “The Adams Chair and its Hotel History.” “How Times Have Changed:” Old buildings around Woodbury. “Proctoria:” The original estate for which the Gatehouse was the entrance. The program also will feature information on the new Purple Heart Museum at the New Windsor Cantonment and how to get a qualified veteran on its register. Interviews also will be conducted with all those who would like to share their remembrances of Woodbury in the late 1940s and 1950s (including school, work, businesses, family life, weddings, etc., of those times). This will be in preparation for the next Gatehouse exhibit in early 2007 on “Woodbury - The Years After WW II.” Refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome. The Gatehouse is located on Smith Clove Road at Pine Hill Road in Central Valley. For information, call 928-6378 or 928-9249.
