Melinda's Music Therapy volunteers celebrate the program's fifth anniversary of serving children with special needs with an end-of-semester event recently at Subtle Energies in Chester. Connie Wehmeyer, owner of Subtle Energies, has volunteered with the group for most of those five years. Kristen DeRosso, a volunteer for more than four years, will be leaving to college next year and fellow volunteers Simone Burgard, Lara Butfilowski, Amy DelBianco, Julianne DePietro, Colleen Dundas, Maria Nursch, Katie Riley, Amy Velivisa, as well as Connie Wehmeyer, will continue to work with the children as one-to-one volunteers beginning in September. The afterschool Music Therapy group meets weekly at the Warwick Reformed Church. Music Therapy is the use of music as a vehicle to achieve non-musical goals such as increasing speech and socialization skills through musical activities. For more information, call Melinda Burgard, M. A., certified music therapist, at 477-0451.
