WARWICK — Wire Choir will perform concerts over the summer for the “Railroad Green” concert series and the “On the Lawn at Sugarloaf Crossing” concert series.

Wire Choir is an unconventional orchestra comprised of students grades 5-12 from the Warwick Valley School District.

The choir was created in the fall of 2005 by E'lissa Jones Maynard, a singer-songwriter from the Hudson Valley also known as “E'lissa Jones."

They perform pop songs ranging from Nirvana to John Legend that are arranged by their director as well as many of her original compositions.

“When Wire Choir first began, it consisted of only 20 sixth grade students," Maynard said in her press release announcing the performances. "By the next year, students who had participated in sixth grade Wire Choir wanted to continue playing in the group and sacrificed their free time do so.

"Since that time, the group grew from 20 students to more than 70 active participants,” Maynard added.

This year, their director decided to provide the students with the opportunity to perform concerts outside of the school walls. At an Empty Bowls performance, she mentioned going on tour with the group and the students were elated.

July 9
To start their touring endeavor, the Wire Choir will perform on Railroad Green on July 9, at 7:30 p.m. with the E'lissa Jones Band. The group will open the concert with their own selections and later in the show, they accompany the E'lissa Jones Band.

Aug. 21
The second date on their summer tour schedule is Aug. 21, for the On the Lawn at Sugarloaf Crossing concert series.

While the group is beginning with small steps by performing locally first, the group's ultimate goal is to “Take Manhattan," Maynard said.

“Wire Choir is a great group made up of talented young musicians,"she added. "I believe in them and I know they can and will do anything they set their minds to. So mark your calendars, people.”
