Who was that man in the black SUV?

— Anyone visiting Warwick Municipal Airport on Thursday, Oct. 24, might have thought an FBI task force had descended on the field to corner one of its most wanted.

There were black SUVs, filled with agents in bulletproof vests, along with Connecticut State Police cars racing down the grass runway towards a parked single engine airplane and a helicopter.

But the police and FBI agents were all actors in "The Following," a TV drama series staring Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominee Kevin Bacon.

“It looked like they were building a city here this morning,” remarked Airport Manager Dave Mac Millan who was amazed by the number of technicians, the amount of equipment and the extent of elaborate construction required to shoot a single scene.

The series is about a serial killer, who escapes from death row and embarks on a new killing spree. The FBI calls in a former agent, played by Bacon, who had captured the killer nine years ago after he had murdered 14 female students on the college campus where he taught literature. The FBI soon learns it may be up against not one, but a cult of killers.

Local connections
To help the director find a fixed wing six place aircraft for the scene Mac Millan contacted Cessna’s Regional Sales Director Steve Kent, a resident of Warwick and a tenant at the airport.

Kent, in turn, contacted Frank R Galella III, president of Lincoln Park Aviation, who flew in from the nearby New Jersey airport with a Cessna 206.

Bacon and most of the other actors and technicians commuted from Manhattan to the airport but four of the professional stunt performers, all members of SAG (Screen Actors Guild) who will appear in the episode are from the local area.

Jery and Jennifer Hewitt and Norm Douglass live in Warwick. Jery’s brother Don Hewitt lives in Westtown.

“This is great,” said Jennifer Lamb-Hewitt, who plays one of the FBI agents. “We’re used to long commutes to arrive on a set. My husband has been doing this full time for 36 years and I’ve been working as a stunt performer for 21 years. This is the first time we only had to travel a few miles to get to work.”

The second season of "The Following," will begin on Fox this coming January and the scene at Warwick Municipal Airport will be featured in episode six. The series is jointly produced by Warner Brothers Television and Outerbanks Entertainment.
